Nicknamed the Pearl of the South, Villasimius is a splendid town whose territory extends for 25 km of coastline and counts 20 beaches interspersed with cliffs. It will be impossible to forget the intense colors of the sea, its clear and sparkling waters, and the landscapes that alternate between granite rocks, delightful coves, long stretches of sand, lagoons, and green hills.
Simius: is the town beach of Villasimius, the closest to Residence Le Fontane, a kilometer of white, thin, and soft sand that stretches immediately southeast of the town center. This bay, sheltered from the wind, is bathed by crystal-clear and transparent sea, with shades ranging from green to blue and a seabed that gently slopes towards the open sea.
Is Traias: is a cove 150 meters long, nestled between 2 rocky walls covered with Mediterranean scrub. The sand is white and the seabed is transparent and gently sloping.
Spiaggia di Notteri: is located just under 4 km from the town center of Villasimius. It can also be reached by continuing on foot along the same coastline as Simius beach. Behind it lies the Notteri pond from which the beach takes its name. Thanks to its sloping seabed, it is perfect for families with children who can play in absolute tranquility.
Porto Giunco: is located right after Notteri beach. Its sand is fine and white, the water incredibly transparent and turquoise. It is dominated by a namesake coastal tower that can be reached on foot or horseback to enjoy from above this extraordinary stretch of coast, one of the most beautiful in Sardegna.
Spiaggia del riso: owes its name to the composition of its sand, made up of white grains that resemble real rice grains. Spiaggia del Riso is located in the immediate vicinity of the marina and is part of the protected marine area of Capo Carbonara. The ‘rice grains’ sink into the crystal-clear sea, with a shallow and sandy seabed, with colors ranging from emerald green to blue.
Campulongu: is a long and fine strip of white sand surrounded by a pine forest and Mediterranean scrub. Here too, the seabed is sloping and suitable for bathing for the less experienced and the little ones.
Campus: this beach is perfect for those who love long swims surrounded by multicolored fish or long walks. It is indeed a wide beach located at the mouth of a river made of soft golden sand that plunges into a crystal-clear and transparent sea.
Porto Sa Ruxi: is the westernmost beach in the territory of Villasimius. It is a sort of bay, characterized by a beach with three arches, with very fine white sand, protected behind by low rocks and dense Mediterranean scrub.
The territory of Villasimius is rich in natural attractions but also in history.
Diving or snorkeling enthusiasts can discover all the varieties of flora and fauna that inhabit the marine protected area of Capo Carbonara.
This area extends for a total of 86 km2, from Capo Boi to the Isola di Serpentara, also including the Isola dei Cavoli. It is possible to visit it with guided boat tours, on foot, or through guided dives. It is not uncommon to spot flamingos, fin whales, and dolphins or to admire the largest bivalve mollusk in the Mediterranean: the pinna nobilis.
The territory is dotted with Spanish towers, built for spotting potential pirate attacks. On the promontory of Capo Boi, right on the sea, there is also the old fortress which was used until the Savoy era. Today it houses a museum and from here you can enjoy splendid sunsets.
For those who want to discover the various historical phases that have characterized the territory, the Museo Civico of Villasimius collects artifacts dating back to various ancient eras, including the remains of the ancient Phoenician Roman temple, ancient amphorae, and a shipwreck dating back to 1500.
To these activities, you can combine shopping among the craft shops in the center, dinners based on seafood dishes, or evening walks in the streets of the center, enlivened by live music and the night market on summer evenings.
The restaurants in the area offer typical dishes of the region, made with genuine and local ingredients from the sea or the land.
Among the typical specialties of the town is Sa Costedda, a rustic focaccia made with flour, yeast, water, salt, onions, or tomato. It can be found in any bakery and pastry shop in Villasimius and is often served in the best restaurants.
Another typical delight is Malfatti: tasty dumplings made with fresh local ricotta and spinach, seasoned with tomato sauce. Also based on ricotta are the fried ravioli, this time sweet. They are served hot and covered with delicious honey.
